“A renovation permit has been issued for the residential conversion of an existing building at 2300 W. Ainslie. Planned by developer CKG Realty Group, the project will convert the former St. Matthias Rectory located at the northwest corner of W. Ainslie St and N. Oakley Ave.

“Designed by Red Architects, the rectory will be converted into apartments, hosting nine units within the building made up of one-beds, two-beds, and three-beds. The rectory will include three parking spaces for residents and 9 bike parking spaces.

“With both the interior demolition permit and now the renovation permit issued, general contractor 3F Construction can begin work on the residential conversion and work through completion.”

“St. Matthias is one of the parishes that was closed as part of the archdiocese’s Renew My Church program, which aims to close and consolidate Catholic churches and schools to save money and create ‘more vital parishes.’

‘The parish merged with Queen of Angels, 2330 W. Sunnyside Ave., in Ravenswood in 2022.

“‘The [rectory] building is vacant. It’s been vacant for some time and it’s pretty much functionally obsolete, in the sense that its layout and configuration is not something that would work for most of today’s uses,’ Scott Schiller, from CKG Realty Group previously said. ‘But it’s a beautiful building. And it’s a building that we have a strong desire to save and rehabilitate so it will exist as an asset to the community.’ (Hernandez, Block Club Chicago, 6/21/23)
