WIN: After Years of Delays, St. Wenceslaus Catholic School Adaptive Reuse to Residential Loft Apartments Approved

“The latest proposal to convert the former St. Wenceslaus Catholic school building, 3425 N. Lawndale Ave., into loft apartments is now moving forward.

“A developer has proposed various plans to build apartments at the site since 2021. Neighborhood reaction had been mixed, but Ald. Ruth Cruz (30th) ultimately supported the latest 28-apartment project that was pitched.

“‘This has been a long, long, long process, so we are excited we are here, but I do want to say that a lot of our neighbors were involved … and finally we can see more housing,’ Cruz said at a previous meeting of the City Council’s zoning committee.

“The school building’s fifth and final redevelopment proposal will include eight one-bedroom apartments between 600-800 square feet and 22 two-bedrooms between 900-1,800 square feet, Claudia Sobieski, a spokesperson for the development team, said during the last community meeting for the project in 2024.

“The redevelopment will include 24 parking spaces, and the building exterior will not be changed, zoning attorney Paul Kolpak previously said. (Parrella-Aureli, Block Club Chicago, 5/20/26)
