“You’re invited to join the Society of Architectural Historians for the 2023 SAH Celebrates, our annual celebration of the achievements of individuals and groups who shape the built environment and passionately advocate on behalf of historic places. The event will take place at The Newberry on Friday, November 3, in Chicago.
“At the center of SAH Celebrates is the Charnley-Persky House (1891–1892), a National Historic Landmark and a Chicago Landmark designed by Louis Sullivan with assistance from Frank Lloyd Wright, that serves as SAH headquarters. SAH Celebrates highlights the importance of fostering a supportive community whose efforts ensure the stewardship of architectural gems like the Charnley-Persky House.
“SAH Celebrates will take place at one of Chicago’s most historic cultural institutions, The Newberry, on Friday, November 3, starting at 6:00 p.m. The awards ceremony that begins at 6:15 p.m. in Ruggles Hall will be followed by a cocktail reception at 7:00 pm, that features food designed by Lula Café and music by DJ Onwa. Guests will also enjoy access to The Newberry’s Trienens Galleries to view the exhibition, Seeing Race Before Race, which explores the roots of race from the Middle Ages to 1800. In conjunction with the event, SAH will host an online auction that features architectural objects and experiences.
“Proceeds benefit the ongoing maintenance and care of the Charnley-Persky House and SAH’s educational programs and publications, including SAH Archipedia and Buildings of the United States.
