Great news from Woodlawn’s Shrine of Christ the King – the Institute of Christ the King has raised $1.46 million out of the $2.9 million needed for the new roof and windows to be completed following the damage from the devastating fire that occurred just under one year ago.
They are also hosting a rally on October 8, 2016, at noon, on the anniversary of the Shrine’s fire last year and also the anniversary of the Chicago Fire of 1871. It’s a free event and all are welcome to attend the celebration.
Preservation Chicago is pleased to see this effort move forward so successfully, especially because our advocacy played a role in transferring the building to the Institute, thus saving it from demolition.
