Frank Lloyd Wright Trust presents Teaching by Design: for Educators Thursday, April 4, 2023

“Enrich your curriculum with Teaching by Design, a professional development program for K-12 Educators. These professional development workshops will empower teachers to integrate American art, design, and architecture into their classroom curriculum. Inquiry-based tours and hands-on design activities will give educators opportunities to develop STEAM skills and strengthen social-emotional development. Each session will be hosted at one of Wright’s historic buildings in the Chicago area.

“Our first Evenings for Educators session covers the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. This event features a lecture given by the Trust’s Curator and Director of Interpretation Sarah Holian, who will discuss the enduring architectural legacy of Burnham and Root, the World’s Fair, and the Rookery. Included in this event is an in-depth tour of the Rookery Light Court, a behind-the-scenes look at the Burnham Library, and a hands-on workshop featuring design thinking and Chicago’s architectural history. Educators are encouraged to arrive between 5 and 5:30 pm to enjoy refreshments, mingle, and hear a brief presentation by our President & CEO Celeste Adams about our new Learning Center.

“Who should participate: K-12 classroom teachers and art teachers who want to build critical and design-based thinking into their curriculum.”
