“A building that for decades was home to the beloved Danny’s Tavern in Bucktown is in the process of being torn down.

“A demolition permit was issued last week for the property at 1951 W. Dickens Ave. An application for a construction permit from June for the address calls for the construction of a four-story building with three dwelling units.

“The demolition of the former Danny’s building comes more than five years after the bar and dance club closed in late 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. A new tenant never took over the space.

“Danny’s opened in the mid-’80s and became a Bucktown and Chicago institution known for its themed dance parties, curated DJ sets and candlelit, living-room-style layout.

“The Danny’s Tavern building went on the market in 2021. It was sold in November for $821,000, according to Chicago YIMBY.

“While the building will soon be no longer, the bar’s famous Schlitz On Tap neon sign lives on a few miles south in West Town outside cocktail bar Friends of Friends.
